Sarge and I went to sceale bay with my 4.5m tinnie in tow, being my first time there it is near streaky bay around the west coast of S.A. from the 15th to 18th of February in search of wild Bluefin Tuna as it is one of the few places where they can be caught by smaller boats in good weather within 10km of shore. In short we never even saw one and the weather was perfect and we went almost 20km from shore and fished for them for three days with water temp increasing each day to 20degrees which should be ideal, but no luck but they have been very patchy this season we’ve been told.
But we also did some bottom bashing for nannies etc. and had some success with myself catching my biggest ever nannygai (Red Snapper) of 2.7kg and sarge’s biggest of the trip around 1.5kg and over 2 dozen for the three days, we also caught thumper snook on our tuna lures of over 2.5kg and a few barracouta and also a nice bonus of a few plump KG whiting in close to shore plus sarge caught another blue morwong of around 1.2kg and an assortment of bottom oogerlies of which I caught my first Sergeant Baker but we still had a great trip even with tuna no show!
In finishing I suggest anybody going through streaky bay check out the 5m White pointer replica at the main service station it is unbelievably huge being the biggest ever landed of around 1500kg (3300lb) but not put in the record books because mammal flesh was used and it was caught around from streaky!
My first Sergeant Baker colourful, pity not great eating!

Our first day haul of Nannygai (Red Snapper) & good size snook.

My biggest ever Nannygai of 2.7kg from Sceale Bay S.A.

Second day catch of Nannies and nice KG Whiting.

Sarges small Blue Morwong from Sceales Bay

Myself next to a 5m 3300lb Great White Replica at Streaky Bay S.A.

Having a bit of a snack with sarge! Yuk, food poisoning will diffinitley result!
