Marlin Madness

On Tuesday this week my brother-in-law Shaun & I set out from the Southport boat ramp at about 6am to target Bill Fish around the 50m line S.E.of the sea way....

On our way we stopped at the 'close in' reefs at Surfers and tried for some Spotties after casting our arms off (no result).  We headed on, trolling as we went, towards the gravel patch which is in about 40m of water straight out from Burleigh Heads (about 4km).

On reaching our location we spotted a couple of large floats about 100m in front of us and then CRUNCH the first hook up, after few leeps & spirited runs a nice Dophin fish came on board (5-6kg)

Liking the action, we then moved in on the FAD (fish attracting device) and I started casting a small 40g raider while Shaun used fly.  Both of us hooked up and landed 4 of these speedy little acrobates - top fun, however this was short lived as they went off the bite as quickly as they came on

We thought something bigger might have moved in (we were right) so once again we started trolling & on our first troll past the FAD.... CRUNCH.... MR Marlin started dancing yeeehhhaaa the barstool (I mean Shaun...) caught that one

An eternity passed and I thought I was going to miss out    .... but, alas - the fishing Gods smiled down upon me that day, and I too had the thrill of landing a beauty as well! It was bloody awesome

We both released our Mr Marlin's (check out the pics); but took home a nice feed of Dolphin fish - it was a great day.

Anyway, hope to see ya out there!
