Urunga NSW

Well as you may have noticed by the smooth running of the Forum, that I have been away. Thanks guys for taking care of things in my absence.
Yep, we had a family reunion down at Urunga, just south of Coffs Harbour New South Wales.
My family are slit into separate camps, Melbourne (home state), Coffs Harbour (old haunt) and Brisbane (home base). So we decided to book three units at Urunga and hook-up there for a week and relax.
Reah right
Although we were doing the family re-union thing I was sure my cook would not notice the five or six baitcasters I had smuggled into the luggage.
Enough of the crap, now down to fishing. I took a bag and a half of lures with me (as usual) affording me hundreds of lures to choose from in different (unknown) conditions. Determined to give the SP’s a go I whipped the water to froth with nearly every type of franger on the market, but only 4 strikes and no hook-ups. The fish missed the hooks completely and let go before being beached. Oh and one straightened hook. I found the hooks very weak.
So in desperation I switched back to the lures I knew (hard bodied) and what a difference. Seven fish in an hour, all but one small flathead. The other one was a suicidal herring.
We went for a river cruise on board “The River Rat” which was very good and I learnt a few lines to use for my next safety briefing on charters, the skipper was quite a comedian. The area is steeped in history, and a great place to visit. The units we rented backed onto the Golf Coarse and fronted the river mouth at Urunga. Top spot.

Gripping lizards this way immobilises them so they can be handled safely

This fish is freshly caught but because of K.C's grip it is immobilised and safely handled, prior to release

Navigating away from an approaching vessel, note the fish is completely relaxed by this hold and poses no problems while I am manouvering the boat.
