Fishlog
"This is a program I personally use, and recommend". (K.C.)
It is excellent for keeping and cross referencing logs, planning trips, storing waypoints, calculating distances, checking tidal movements and much more. Very inexpensive and accurate.

It is always advisable to check the weather conditions before going out.
When planning a trip you should have a projected weather forecast and a list of tidal flow with variations for the areas you will be in.
It is always a good idea to also have a back up plan for safe anchorage in case the situation suddenly changes.
And always contact the V.M.R. (Voluntary Marine Rescue) or local radio monitoring station and advise them of your trip details. (Log on) And be sure to log off when safely back in port.
And if in doubt, don't go out.

Marine Radio Lisence
I believe that everybody who puts to sea should be able to use and maintain a marine radio, as it is sometimes the only link you have with other people and rescue facilities for yourself, friends, or total strangers.
Radio coarses are readily available and very inexpensive. Contact your local Air Sea Rescue (Volentary Marine Rescue or VMR) Coast Guard, Dept of Transport harbours office or water police. For information.
The Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club at Manly used to hold classes there.
Below are a couple of stickers that you can get to place near your radio for quick reference to the frequencies used.
Below is a guide kept handy for reference.
